No “Thank You”- A Guide To Twitter Manners

You probably grew up hearing such phrases as, “Keep your elbows off the table”, or “Make sure that you say please and thank you”.   We teach manners to our children ourselves from the time that they are old enough to understand what we are talking about.  Good manners are appreciated and often expected in today’s society and it is no different within the virtual world.

What’s Wrong With my Manners?

Maybe nothing is.  Or maybe every one of your tweets just screams, “Faux pas!”  Are you one of those people who always write with the caps lock on just because it is easier?  Do you firmly believe that a period is only for a hockey game?  Or are you one of these types: “A comma?” “What’s a comma?”  In that case, it’s going to be a pretty safe bet that Miss Emily Post will not be asking you for input on manners.

Now  That’s Rude.

Okay, so not everyone realizes that when you type in all capitals, you are in effect shouting at people.  Now you do, so don’t do it anymore.  You may think that it makes what you have to say easier to read and more noticeable, when in fact, it simply gives the reader an instant headache.

If your recent post went something like this, ” I went to bed in the morning I fed the dog” take a second and reread that.  Did you go to bed in the morning, or did you feed the dog in the morning?  Twitter is restricted to only 140 characters per post but you want people to know what you are trying to say.  Throw in some punctuation!

Retweeting Manners

Auto retweet or automatic retweets are great in some cases and they have their uses.  However, you generally don’t even see these tweets until sometime later.  For all you are aware of, you have just used automatic retweet for  a post that is screaming, or one that makes no sense.  That is one drawback of the auto retweet option.  When you are manually retweeting, at least you can choose not to retweet if you feel the post is bad taste or has bad manners.

Your aim on Twitter is to grow your followers and have them read your tweets.  They will be more likely to do this if etiquette is properly followed.

The Instagram Party: How to Bring a Gift

Christmas, weddings and even birthdays, bring out the party atmosphere in all of us.  We get the urge to dance, sing and maybe even have a couple of drinks.  Think of Instagram in terms of a party that is always going on, any hour of the night or day.  But what would a party be without a present?  Okay, so you can’t actually bring a wrapped gift to Instagram and hand it to someone, but each photo or video that you post can be a gift for your followers.

Cyber Giving on Instagram Made Simple

When you start to think in terms like these, you will want to put more thought into the video and photo content that you post and how you interact with other followers.  Just like party etiquette exists, so does etiquette on Instagram.  Don’t post the same photo a hundred times in a week.  Having variety makes you interesting.  Occasionally thank someone for a comment that they made on your video.  It makes you appear humble.  It also show that you took the time to actually read what they had to say, which makes people feel good.  Connect with others.  Follow people who you find interesting and whose photos may be of interest to your followers.  Don’t feel the need to respond to every photo or video that you look at.  For one thing, it’s time consuming, and it is also really not expected.

Automatic Likes for my Gifts

For people who are new to following you on Instagram, or even for long-term followers, they will be more likely to pay more attention to, or even comment, on a photo or video that has a high number of likes attached to it.  Why?  For the simple reason that most followers figure that it will be of interest if so many others took the time to look and to click like.  This is where Instagram automatic likes can come in handy.  Instagram automatic likes can make it magically seem as if thousands of users have found your photo and clicked like.  Purchasing  automatic likes to make you “the gift that keeps on giving”, and to increase your count makes you appear popular in a short period of time.  A follower will be impressed to see that the new photo you posted already has 1200 likes.
